Project Overview
In summary ...
MUPPITS is a unique production tool to solve real everyday problems throughout pre-production, production and post-production.
MUPPITS is:
- Flexible management of content and processes
- Commercial work-flow planning
- System configuration for automatic invocation of processes
- Control and tracking of content and processes
- Secure collaboration between organisations
- Location and management of assets independently of format
- Outsourcing and sharing of processing and storage resources
Enhancement of tapeless production MUPPITS is designed to give you security and control of every aspect of production. It’s designed for a world where content could be on film, tape, disk or memory, and where acquisition, production, post production and distribution could be widely separated.
In a little more detail ...
The MUPPITS project enables companies from all parts of the production and post production industries to buy and sell technical resources. These resources might be located in a metropolitan area (e.g. London’s Soho), but could also be spread out around the country or across borders.
Content is no longer constrained to physical media for transit from one facility to another. High speed infrastructure and highly automated transaction management will bring significant improvements in efficiency and a more collaborative approach across the whole of Britain.
At the heart of the MUPPITS approach, production content is stored in a data warehouse, a robust repository for media files and their metadata. This content can be searched and accessed both manually by production users, and automatically by processing services.
Services are launched according to rules established by the production team and stored as control policies. Services can be hosted in-house, or outsourced where the need arises. Where outsourcing is used, commercial aspects such as security, billing and quality of service are managed by the MUPPITS architecture. This approach can create a marketplace for production resources to be bought and sold, allowing external providers the same opportunities to contribute as local ones.
To help enable such a marketplace, MUPPITS is making use of GRIA. This is an open source service-oriented middleware designed to support B2B collaboration. All operations performed by services are auditable, and the system administrators can determine who can access what content.
