The Digital Television Group

DTG logoThe DTG has co-ordinated the development of digital television in the UK since 1998. Its members include many of the major players in the digital television world.

Their role in this project is one of providing the necessary project management, which is similar to the work it does in other areas of the digital industry.

Project Benefits to the DTG

The DTG is the central point for implementation of digital TV development in the UK and actively participates in the European Migration to Digital Television. The DTG can act as an advisory body and disseminate the project results to its members and European partners thereby keeping them abreast of new technology Innovations.

IT innovation

ITI logoIT Innovation is an academic research offshoot from the University of Southampton.

ITI is the source of the major technology being developed, e.g. GRIA management software, which is successfully used in the motor industry and the meteorological industry. This software has the potential to be used in widely different industries.

ITI is developing the core software management tools for deployment in as many industries as possible.

Project Benefits to ITI

ITI have taken a software project developed for other industries and adapted it into a new area of usage in the film and TV industry; improving the benefit to the university funding and the widening of the use of open standards.

Smoke & Mirrors

Smoke & Mirrors logoSmoke & Mirrors is a high end Soho post production house specialising in CGI rendering for mainstream TV programmes and commercials. Smoke & Mirrors, along with ITI, is developing specialist tools for estimating render time against resource to facilitate more efficient planning and resource management.

Project Benefits to Smoke & Mirrors

Smoke & Mirrors have developed with ITI crucial new tools for estimating in advance computing requirements for specific jobs so improving the accuracy of job pricing, this is in addition to developing tools to facilitate the remote processing of large render jobs.

Molinare

Molinare logoMolinare has a very wide base of post production and production services. The company is looking for authentic efficiencies with the onset of tapeless production, training in new skills, and the ability to participate in large-scale collaborative server based projects and so offer infrastructure services, off-site and cheaper facilities.

Project Benefits to Molinare

Molinare offer many and varied post-production services. By concentrating on efficient and smart use of Metadata in conjunction with MUPPITS the can not only offer a more flexible service but also more accurately track and charge for resources used.

HDDC Ltd

Sohonet are part of the organic growth in the Film and TV production industries worldwide and they are looking to offer new services into their existing and new customer base.

Pinewood Studios Group

Pinewood logoThe Pinewood Studios Group has clients in every sector of the film and television production and post production business. It is conscious of the impact that all digital production is having on their traditional film based clients. Implementing direct from stage transactions with a media transfer centre (data warehouse) will provide multiple new services for the benefit of production clients and Pinewood’s tenant businesses.

Primarily MUPPITS facilitates increased production availability and larger market share for its clients and partners.

BBC

BBC logoThe BBC is the UK’s leading public service broadcaster, and the largest broadcasting corporation in the world. It both produces its own content, and commission’s content from the independent production market place. It adopts open standards wherever practical, and is investing heavily in IT based production workflows.

As well as an end user, BBC is also a technology provider for the project: BBC R&D provides the Ingex tapeless recording system, and tools for media and metadata manipulation.

Cost reductions achieved by streamlining use of tapeless acquisition, and content transfer for TV program production.

Ovation Data Systems

ODS logoODS is a hardware and service provider supplying off the shelf solutions; software could be a new service to react to clients requirements; to apply MUPPITS in other industries. ODS can also integrate the post business into other industries mass storage and processing resources, for example the gas and oil exploitation industry.

Project Benefits for ODS

ODS look to the improved efficiency of the media handling and storage systems with integration between industries with similar data storage requirements.
